Reflection

This course has taught me a lot of the course of this semester. I came into this course with a pretty good grasp on Photoshop, a working knowledge of Illustrator and Premiere, and no clue how to use Audition. After going through each project, I feel a lot more confident in my abilities in each program.

I think my favorite project was the Premiere project because I got to use the knowledge I gained from every other project, except Illustrator. I was able to combine the graphic design portion of the Photoshop project  and the audio editing of Audition. It was also fun working with a lot of content that I was able to go out and work to get. I feel like this project allowed me to be a lot more creative in how I went about doing it. My only gripe is that I wish the time limit was a bit longer because I really wanted to go more in depth with my topic, but was unable to do so because I would’ve gone well over the 2 minute time cap.

This course also taught me a lot about what goes into different disciplines of multimedia content creation. I learned a lot about how to shoot good, editable b-roll and how to make a logo that stands out from every other logo. As for Photoshop, there wasn’t really a whole lot new that I learned, but it served as a really good refresher and playground to mess around with new ideas and concepts.

I really want to go into a career where I’ll be constantly creating some sort of multimedia content. I’m currently studying Multimedia Journalism, so having a working knowledge of each of these programs will hopefully help me get a head start on my career and allow me to produce professional quality content.

One skill I wish I had learned from this course was how to create this sort of content in a group environment. I think that this would’ve been a bit more exciting and more beneficial for some people as it allows you to work alongside other people and share skills and collaborate with them to create a project.

Outside of class, I usually liked to reference Adobe’s official tutorials and guides as they were usually pretty comprehensive. I also like browsing YouTube in general to find guides on certain effects of transitions and special techniques for Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.

Overall, this course was really fun because it allowed me to be creative and focus on a topic that I found interesting. I’m glad I got to take this course and I’m going to make sure my skills learned in this course won’t disappear.

Thank you!

Adobe Premiere – Final

I’m honestly really happy with how my final project turned out. I was able to accomplish a lot of what I wanted to change in my rough draft.

For my final draft, I was able to remove the music track entirely and replace it with ambient sounds and crowd chatter from the games I went to, which I was really happy about. I feel like the ambient sound fits the mood a lot better and is less distracting than some royalty free song that I stuck in there to fill the dead air.

I was also able to gather a lot more b-roll from the Crimson and Gray football game last weekend, allowing me to increase the amount of content I was able to talk about. I went into that game with an idea of what kinds of shots I wanted and actually ended up with some great examples to use in my video (primarily the ref and timing examples).

Had I been given a longer time limit on my video, I feel like I would’ve been able to talk more about my subject. My original plan before I learned that there was a 2 minute limit was to go roughly ~5-7 minutes, talking about every kind of sport I’ve photographed, but I figured that wouldn’t work at all with just 2 minutes to do so. So, instead, I talked about the gear I used and some of the challenges I face with photographing sports.

I also had a lot of fun messing around with different effects and keyframing stuff into my video. I was able to make some outlines for my gear when I talked about it, showing the viewer what exactly I was talking about, which I thought would be really helpful.

Overall, I am very happy with my final project and feel like I learned a lot about how to use Premiere effectively.

Adobe Premiere Rough Draft

So, for this project, I wanted to create a behind-the-scenes video for what goes into shooting sports. For example, I want to talk about the gear I use, the preparation I put into the shoots beforehand… stuff like that. Honestly, though, with the 2:00 minute time constraint I have to work with for this project, I’m not 100% sure I can accomplish that to the best of my abilities. I feel like just trying to get basketball and football in is going to be tough.

For my rough draft, I wanted to get something down that will help me organize my ideas better. I like to think of it as a video storyboard, something that shows what’s happening when and where in the video itself, like an animatic, in a way; just completely barebones so that I know what my ideas were going into this project and can easily tweak my ideas if needed without having to spend a lot of time reworking large portions of my project.

My motivation for this project comes largely from this video by Fstoppers on YouTube:

This weekend, I plan on getting more b-roll and images from the WSU Crimson and Gray football game up in Spokane. I’m hoping that I can either get enough b-roll to completely redo my project and focus only on football or somehow think of a way that I can condense all of the information I want to present in under 2 minutes.

The music I got from Bensounds, a royalty-free music provider. I would like to find a better song to use, or worst case, find a way to implement ambient sounds a lot better.

Audition – Final Draft

For my Audition project, I really wanted to do a mock commentary-esque thing. I feel like I accomplished that pretty well, but also feel like I ended up doing more documentary-style narration for the majority of my project; I felt like I was doing more descriptive, insightful narration rather than the normal color commentary present in a radio commentary segment.

I also wanted to replicate the sound of a radio broadcast. To accomplish this, I used an intercom preset for each clip of audio, allowing me to make everything sound a little more treble-heavy and compressed, similar to a radio broadcast.

I’m also not super happy with how my voice sounds. Coming off from a cold, I decided to push back recording my audio to allow my sinuses to clear up, but that wasn’t the case. They’re still congested. So, I decided whatever I record now would have to do and the result I got wasn’t quite what I was hoping for when I set about to produce this project.

Overall, though, I’m pretty happy with how the overarching project turned out. I feel like I was able to accomplish my goal from the beginning and was able to execute it to a pretty good level. I still have a lot to learn about Audition and how to make my audio sound even better, but this is a good starting point for me, no doubt.
